Acarbose

Also known as pseudotetrasaccharide, Acarbose is a sugar that acts as an α-glucosidase inhibitor. The glucosidase in the intestine acts as a catalyst that activates hydrolysis from oligo-, tri- and disaccharides to monosaccharides. This mitigates the increase in blood sugar levels after meals. Developed by Bayer, it is used as an antidiabetic for treatment in type 2 diabetes.
