A pyrazinic derivate that connects to a guanidin group by way of peptide binding. Sensitive to light, amiloride hydrochloride is used as a potassium-saving diuretic. This effect is brought on by inhibiting sodium recovery and potassium secretion. Amiloride is frequently used in collaboration with other diuretics, such as Hydrochlorothiazide.
