Galantamine

A plant alkaloid that can be found in some snowdrops and daffodils, Galantamine modulates nicotinergic acetylcholine receptors and inhibits acetylcholinesterase. It can be used as an antidote in acetylcholinesterase blocking agents (e.g., organophosphates, sarin, and tabun) and has a strong analgesic, vagoton (parasympathomimetic), cardioprotective and anti-inflammatory properties. It is used to treat dementia, specifically Alzheimer’s disease.
